Leaving Pinterest

Delete Your Pinterest Account Without Losing Your Pins

When a Pinterest account is deleted, its boards and pins go with it, for good. Before you leave, save everything you want to keep to your own computer. It takes a few minutes to set up.

What happens when you delete a Pinterest account

Pinterest also lets you request a copy of your account data. It's useful, but it's about your account, not a folder of your saved images ready to browse. Our Pinterest data export guide explains what's in it and what isn't.

Just need a break? Deactivate instead

Deactivating hides your profile and boards, but keeps them. Log back in whenever you like and everything is where you left it. If you're not sure you're leaving for good, deactivate first. You can still save your pins either way.

Save your pins before you delete

1
Install PinBoard

Download PinBoard for Mac, Windows or Linux and open it.

2
Sign in to Pinterest inside PinBoard

Click Sign in to Pinterest. It opens Pinterest's own sign-in page, and your password goes to Pinterest only. This is what lets PinBoard see your secret boards (Pro).

3
Load your whole profile

Paste your profile link to load every board at once, or paste each board link one at a time. See downloading a whole profile.

4
Download everything

Each board lands in its own folder with its images, GIFs, videos and every slide of its carousels, at full size.

Check you've got everything

When a download finishes, PinBoard tells you if any pins couldn't be saved. Don't worry if Pinterest's pin count is a little higher than what you got: it also counts pins that were deleted or hidden by the people who made them, and those can't be downloaded by anyone.

Open the folder and click through a few boards. If a big board stopped early, load it again: PinBoard skips what you already have and picks up the rest. If it keeps stopping, set Speed to Slow in Settings.

⚠️ Do this before you delete, not after. Once the account is closed, PinBoard can't load its boards either, because they're no longer on Pinterest.

Then delete your account

In Pinterest, open your settings, go to the account management section and choose to delete your account. Pinterest asks why you're leaving and sends an email to confirm. Once you confirm, the 14 days start.

Moving to a new account?

Your downloaded images can be pinned again from a new account by hand, from your computer. PinBoard only saves to your computer, it doesn't upload to Pinterest, so start with the boards you care about most.
